Abode Exeter - Έξετερ

This is a friendly and comfotable hotel in an excelllent location. It offers full service including a creditable cafe with terrace, pub, restaurant and room service. Very good staff. The overall experience is slightly marred by the occasional lapse in the detail such windows that remained uncleaned from my previous visit. Whilst the restaurant is good, I have not found that it met the high culinary aspirations that it asserts.

We stayed at the royal clarence for one night. we were both students at exeter uni, so just wanted a central base for a trip down memory lane. the room was nice, but not all the channels worked on the tv, and our room overlooked the ship inn, which was very very noisy until 1am. staff were friendly.

The hotel is beautiful from the outside, situated opposite the Cathedral and perfect location in the city, the staff were fautless, the room although small was adequate for a nights stay, the only downfall was the cleanliness of the bathroom. ie shower door/toilet/seat were not cleaned properly, flush of the toilet was very poor. Amenities were available and I would go back again and would hope reviews like this would prompt spot checks on housekeeping.

Fantastic location - about 15 seconds walk from glorious Exeter Cathedral. Lots of cozy pubs and restaurants in walking distance. Close to two railway stations. Quaint exterior but modern and comfortable on the inside. Highly recommended!

I have to go to Exeter 3 or 4 times a year as we have an office there. I have stayed in most of the 4*+ hotels & this is definitely my favourite. The rooms are spacious & modern and the beds are huge. The views out on to the Cathedral are spectacular and the choice of bars within the hotel is very good & should cater for most requirements; from simple pub grub to a champagne bar and gastro restaurant. I definitely recommend this hotel.

The Hotel is in a fine position if you don't come with a car, then the parking garage is a ten minute walk from the Hotel, which necessitates parking at the Hotel to unload luggage, driving to the public garage, and walking back. Bathroom in our room 109, was a bit tired, it looked like it had been done up to look good at minimal cost.

Good points: large shower, large bed. Bad points: The only natural light into the room was blocked by very dirty windows, the shower when used leaked water over the bathroom floor, the basin was too small and partially blocked by a shelf, carpets looked grubby. Worst of all, the toilet button stuck so we couldn't flush. The button looked like it had been repaired before, but badly. For the price, the hotel could do better.

I work regualrly in Exeter and have been searching for a good large hotel. Have tried a number in the city and none come near to the Abode. Stayed in a comfort room that gave exactly what it says. It is the lowest grade room, but the only thing compromised is the room size. It is small but perfectly laid out. Stayed two nights and eat in the hotel's cafe/bar both nights. On the first night the food and service was excellent. My only grip with the establishment was on the second night I conveyed my disappointment regarding the starter to the Supervisor only to be told that was how it was supposed to be in a very patronising tone. Overall excellent stay - highly recommended.

Very central, clean and comfortable.

Lovely hotel, but we had dificulty finding it late at night by car with the GPS as it is in a pedestrian only area. I recommend looking at an old fashioned map which we didn't have due to a male love of technology. We phoned Hotels.com to get directions, and the operator was mildly helpful and gave us the hotel phone number. Unfortunatly this was for the WRONG hotel. The hotel i spoke to however was VERY helpful and looked up Abode on their internet and gave me the Abode number which sadly was for the office (not reception) and was closed after hours. So finally we found the place after wandering the cobbled streets and it was lovely. We then had to walk back to the car, set down our bags and go find a public car park. The only improvement i would suggest is the hotel should have Valet parking the last thing you want to do after a long drive, and hassle finding the place is to find a public carpark and walk back.

Very nice hotel in a very convenient setting. Nicely decorated and we loved the mix of boutique in the old classic building. The temperamental lift was not a problem for us but I can see it might be for some as the stairs are a bit rickety. The room was too warm but thats a commom problem in most hotels. The bathroom was clean and well proportioned, the bed was wonderful, a huge king size and very comfortable, a really nice surprise as we had only booked a 'comfortable room' the cheapest. We used room service and were pleasantly surprised at the quality. I would have no hesitation in returning and would reccommend this hotel to friends and family.

Service and (upgraded) room were fine but lack of car park is a major issue. The suggested car park is not great in bad weather and at peak times is awful to access/exit.
