The Copthorne Hotel Newcastle - Νιούκαστλ

The rooms do have fine views, although ours was stuffy and the a/c made little difference. Not as central as we expected, quite a climb involved (if carrying luggage) & taxis charging £4 to £8 per trip- so can work out more expensive than expected. Bar food good but service very casual.

Probably the best location of all the quayside hotels in Newcastle and all the roooms have stunning views of the Tyne bridges. Pity the air conditioning in the room was ineffective but the staff produced a fan rapidly for us. The bar is the pits. The service is poor (we waited 20 mins for a coffee and gave up in the end) and the "Musak" is too loud and tuneless. So-called jazz of the most self indulgant kind full of random notes and no tunes. It is not a place to stay in and relax. We ate in the many places nearby, which were better value. Despite this, it is a good place to stay and explore the area. Don't pay full price but choose some bargain rates. At full rooom price it is exorbidant, but good value if you get "specials"

the hotel has a great location, the bar and entrance looks good and attractive. But when we get to the rooms, the decors looks 20 years old, the old kettle, the old tv and a bed that you could find in a 2 stars. No test in decoration. we got a good price but I dont think the hotel should charge any more for a room until they been refreshed and modernised. Lots of space in rooms waisted.

The Copthorne Hotel Newcastle is a superbly well located hotel, right on the quayside. Easy parking and exactly in the right place. Lovely pool and health club, good restaurant, nothing to fault in my opion, for a city break.

A clean and well equipped hotel within easy reach of the centre of Newcastle. The food and service provided at the bar are friendly and efficient and the menu gives a good choice for those on a budget.

overall shabby and not worth the money but nice staff and clean rooms. the gym was very dated and had old equipment not up to expected standard. i would say book in somewhere half the price and go for a jog along the river path!

Room was stuffy. A/C didn't operate and fan rattled. Carpet marked and insufficient drinking 'bits' for two people. Trouser press fixed to wall not vertical, thereby affecting it's efficacy. Bathroom run down and plenty of mildew. TV channels limited and why thre channels of sport - I hate sport. Toast and coffee for breakfast at £12.95 is a rip off. Why did I spend all this money when I could have stayed at the Holiday Inn Express at half the price and have breakfast included?

I thought the hotel was well situated for the city centre. My room was large with a lovely view over the river. I didn't have a kettle in my room but the staff were efficient in providing me with one. I will be coming back to stay in this hotel.

Excellent location for Sage etc. Very friendly staff although bathrooms a bit 'tired looking' for the price of the accomodation.

This was my 3rd time in newcastle and this was the best by far, would definately retun. Location and views were excellent, and staff were very friendly

We chose the Copthorne for it's proximity to both the Metro Radio Arena and Central station since we were flying in for one night only for a gig. It delivered perfectly on both counts and our unexpected river view room was a nice bonus. However the room, while clean and presentable, was a little tired (cracked titles, non-working airconditioning) and when the say a double bed they mean it- no king size here, which given the price was very disappointing. And the breakfast in bed was prohibitively expensive so we ate elesewhere the next morning at a fraction of the cost. But the 10 minute walk to the concert with a lovely chinese at the halfway point (The Waterside Palace) means it did exactly what we wanted it to when we booked.

Great location complete with river views. Clean and spacious room. Friendly staff and nice bar.

I travel to Newcastle on business 2/3 times a year and invariably stay at the Copthorne. It's central, welcoming and reasonable value for money. Will continue to use duirng 2009

The Copthorne in Newcastle is in an excellent position. Just two minutes from the main through fair of the City centre is an ideal starting point, be-it business or pleasure. Being adjacent to the River Tyne gives this hotel a nice feel, especially with many rooms overlooking the river. The Hotel is a good standard with a good level of service from helpful and friendly staff and management. The bar and food areas are very comfortable, clean and sociable, with drinks and food to an excellent standard. Turning out from the rear of the hotel and walking along the river, you find yourself right in the centre of this buzzing, thriving, and energetic city. Cabs are frequent and very reasonably priced, however being so close you will rarely require their service. I am a well-travelled individual and have no issues with giving this hotel an overall 8.5/10.

We chose this hotel as we were travelling by train and wanted to be close to the Arena, city centre, restaurants and railway station. These were all met by this hotel. Everywhere is '2 minutes' away - at least if you know the route. Unfortunately we didn't so 15 minutes was a more accurate guess but at lest we could walk that far. Pleasant views of the river bridges from our room. We did not use the restaurant as breakfast was not included in the deal.

We recently had a very enjoyable stay at the Copthorne on the Quayside in Newcastle. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The Hotel is clean and tidy located on the Quaside with the room overlooking the River Tyne.

Hotel is 10 mins walk from main railway down a steep hillside walk. Hotel is nice enough modern right on river and all rooms have a view. Small pool. We booked a standard room and only got a small double bed so bit cramped thought for the price they would at least provide queens. Bathroom good shower but small and light not great. Overall hotel average but location good and 5 mins walk from the action of quayside. Hotel was also wedding central when we were there so noisy late at night.

Chipped tiles in the bathroom, broken table tops, and breakfast is not included in the tariff. A proper rip off! Instead try Hilton Gateshead for slightly extra and stay in style.

To put my comments in context, I travel throughout the world regularly on business and for pleasure, staying in everything from budget hotels to award winning boutique hotels. I used to stay in the Copthorne 10 years ago when it was considred a well located good mid-range hotel. It has not been touched since then. It is ofcourse still well located but that is where any positive comment stops. Our room was dirty with the worst bed I've slept in for years. None of the furniture matched, lamp shades were wonky, carpet dirty (with chewing gum), woodwork yellow and chipped. The bathroom was filthy with mould on the grouting and shower curtain. To top it all off the mini bar was empty and turned off. The comments card had no pen or pencil to fill it in! The staff (with the exception of the bar where the staff were excellent) did not seem to care about the wellfare of the guests, or possibly understand anything about the subject. The hotel has gone down hill in 10 years and I would not recommend it to anyone. I cannot reiterate enough, do not go. If you do, you will understand my comments.

Lovely room, top floor, good views of the Tyne, friendly helpful staff, bathroom was a bit dusty, but would go back there.

I was disappointed with the size of the double bed as, having stayed in many other hotels, I had thought it would be either a queen or king size. As a result I spent an uncomfortable night with broken sleep. I was disappointed with the decor of the hotel and felt corridors could have been cleaner and could have done with being smarter, perhaps with a lick of paint. At breakfast we were shown to our table and were not informed of the hot breakfast facility at the back of the dining room. As a result we did not find out about this until we saw another couple with a hot breakfast and by then we had finished our cereal and doughnut . This hotel was booked in good faith because of the Copthornes reputation and I feel I was let down.

My room was so cold I could see my breath when I woke up at 2.00am. I was so cold I had to call to reception to turn the heating up and request for a heater. Heater was a small hand held warm air blower that kept me awake all night as it was noisey. I have stayed in hotels on business for over 20years and never experienced anything so cold. It made my stay extremely uncofortable. When explained to the staff reception in the morning they were not at all interested. I would not stay at this hotel again. The Madison nearby the milenium bridge will be my next choice.

This hotel although in a great location on the river, was very disappointing for a 4 star. I did not expect broken toilet seats and tatty beds for this price.

We stayed in this hotel as a treat for Valentines Day. The room was excellent, spacious and light, with a superb view out of the bay window. It's a shame there was no balcony - sitting out on a balcony with that view of the Tyne would have been great. When we got back from the concert we'd been to at 12.30am, there was what sounded like a wedding party going on in the hotel, and it was so loud that you could hear the music and PA system perfectly in the room. It stopped at 1am, so we didn't have long to wait for some peace and quiet, but I can see that if I'd been staying on business and had to get an early night before a meeting I'd have been pretty annoyed, and would have complained. There was also noise from passing Metro trains (not really the Hotel's fault of course, but worth considering if you are a light sleeper - they now run til the early hours of the morning and shake the room as they pass). And I couldn't find a way to disable the bathroom extractor fan even when the light was off - which kicked out an almighty racket. If you are a light sleeper, these things might bother you. I don't want to take away from the Hotel though, because the room and the service were excellent.

We rea regular visitors to newcastle and always stay in hotels, We paid for breakfast on the saturday morning and it wasnt very good, the hot section lay out was appalling, I asked for fried eggs and the rest of my breakfast was almost cold by the time it arrived. The hotel looks great, I booked on the net and we were slightly concerned that when we arrived on friday 11/1/8 at 14.10pm our room wasnt ready and the receptionist informed us that at weekends the check in time was 16.00, this wasnt on my booking confirmation and as it was we didnt get our rooms until 15.30, perhaps if it stated this on our booking we could have left home later!

Flott beliggenhet med alle rom med utsikt til elven Tyne. Ingen støy om natten eller tidlig morgen fra bakgårder som en vanligvis får i sentrums hoteller, søppelbil, varelevering, etc. Store rom med bord og to stoler ved vinduet. Vennlig og hjelpsomme i resepsjonen. Sentralt, 10 min gange til Metro, jernbane og sentrum. Men det er motbakke.
