Thistle Aberdeen Caledonian - Αμπερντίν

Hotel only shows their best/good rooms on the internet site. If I had seen my room first, I would not have stayed there. The room was very small and very old fashoined, with mould around the tiles in the shower. For a premier hotel the room was poor.

The lobby was nice but the rest of the hotel was disgusting. I had been given a smoking room (on a smoking floor!) although I had requested non-smoking. The smell was absolutely foul, the curtains were yellowed, there were black and yellow marks on the walls and cracks in the ceiling. There was a big black stain on the wall next to the bed, the furniture looked like it had been thrown down stairs and the carpet looked dirty. I returned to reception to be told to speak to the duty manager; I waited 40 minutes for her to come. I was told I couldn’t be moved, and that rooms were allocated first come first served so my request for non-smoking could not be met. (I checked in at 6pm - hardly late - and there were at least 7 people in the queue behind me so I don’t think I was the last person to check in) I tried to find an alternative hotel – there were no vacancies anywhere. I had no choice but to stay (or spend the night wandering Aberdeen). I put towels down on the floor rather than walk on the carpet and spent all night waking up smelling the disgusting stench. I had to wash all my clothes when I came home as they smelled so bad, just by being in the same room for 12-14 hours. I have never been so disgusted with a hotel nor with the attitude of staff who clearly couldn’t have cared less. All I wanted was a clean room to stay in. They do say they are refurbishing the hotel but it is not acceptable to accommodate guests in unrefurbished rooms where I would not put my dog.

warm comfortable and clean room overlooking the Victorian gardens. very quiet, felt like we were the only guests staying. perfect for a city break . aberdeen is a much underrated city. the frienliest people I.ve met in Scotland

My fiance and I stayed at the Thistle Aberdeen Caledonian during a 2-day visit to Aberdeen. The hotel is extremely well located with easy access to most of the city's tourist hotspots, including the harbor, Maritime Museum and main shopping district. I chose this hotel exclusively because of its short (5-10 minute) walk to the central train station. The entire property is extremely nice and in excellent condition. But for the price we paid, I would have expected a larger room. That said, we spent 8 days in Scotland and it appears that large hotel rooms are not the norm anywhere in the country. Especially at older hotels like the Thistle Aberdeen Caledonian. Aberdeen is the capital of the North Sea oil and gas industry and the city is pretty expensive as a result. The Thistle Aberdeen Caledonian apparently gets most of its business from executive clientle. So while nice, the hotel (and the entire city for that matter) is pretty much what you would expect from a property catering primarly to the international business executive crowd. There were only a handful of TV channels available and most them were dedicated to (business) news. There were also a large number of pay channels. With the exception of some mold in the shower, the hotel and our room was very clean. The staff was professional and always pleasant and the location is convenient. Although a bit cramped once our luggage was laid out, the room was very nice with the exception of a toilet that leaked slightly. If this review sounds a bit formal and business-like, than you have a pretty good idea of what the Thistle Aberdeen Caledonian is like. I would recommend this property if you're visiting the city on business; I would stay there again on business. But if you're going on holiday I would recommend that you find something a bit cheaper and which caters more to the tourist crowd.

This Hotel is the poorest quality 4 star I have stayed in in a long time.Good city location but very old and my room was poorly furnished for 4 star standard.

Parts of my stay were very good - late check in and good service. However, the standard of the room was poor and breakfast was overpriced. Overall, for the price I would rate this hotel as adequate.

We spicifically booked a twin and requested a car park space as my daughter and I would be arriving late in the evening having driven from Southern Ireland exhausted. We have done this trip before and know what we need. No twin, No car space, Camp bed in room with a lat missing , mattress sagging. Bedside lamp not working. Windows opening slightly and weather unusually mild. A disco on until very late next door. Shower water gushing out about the room. Lastly,I checked out Sun night as I was getting the early train to Edinborough Mon to fly home. We got a car space on our second day. The car was blocked in.It is my daughters car, she is returning to Uni Aberdeen. We were offered a free meal in the dining room and told it Would be opened for us. Very disappointing.

Very nice hotel staff were pleasant

The hotel is old but under renewal efforts. Staff was polite and helpful, but my room was horrible. Once renewal is complete, hotel could be acceptable. The location is excellent.

This hotel located in the very centre of Aberdeen and the price is quite reasonable.

Hotel is currently undergoing a refurb, so may be improved? Otherwise I'd never class the rooms as 4 Star; basic at best. Service is good and the location is very central. City centre businesses, bars, clubs and restaurants all in walking distance!

Well situated in City centre staffed with friendly attendants however our room was very small, with limited TV access and films for purchase very over-priced and quite dated. Skimpy on small touches like tea and coffee making facilities also ie one biscuit between two guests etc. Didn't really meet expectations of a 4 star hotel. Did enjoy the meal at Cafe Caley downstairs.

The staff at this hotel were exceptional, The rooms were very cosy. We had a lovely time and would stay their again

hotel is very well located in the center of the city but it is a standard old hotel with limited space to sit around ( at the floor there is a small sitting area) very standard breakfast/lunch area

Dette var ett fint Hotell, de holt på med opp pussing, men vi hadde ett nyopusset rom så det var veldi bra. Perfekt beligenhet til Union Street (Shopping), og sentrum, barer og resturanger.

The hotel is undergoing a renovation. There were many posters telling of upgrades available for some money, although none offered and receptionist seeming clueless about the offer. The room assigned as not renovated, and had no airconditioning/ventilation, old carpets, a dingy bed on wheels that moved as you turned over and windows could barely open. The bathroom had a working shower with a molded clingy curtain, and mold all along the edges of the bathrom. Absolutelty not worth the money. Receptionist was politely told that the value of this and the general impression was not good and did not answer and seemed miffed.

Kjempe bra for røykere , var en hell etasje med røykerom , litt små enkeltrom men en skal jo bare sove der...

Fantastisk beliggenhet for en shopping-tur. Dumt at det er trapper opp til hotellet. Kan være tungt å bære koffert, eller barnevogn.

Ypperlig hotell i eldre stil i hjertet av sentrums gågater og restauranter.

Romstandarden var ikke veldig god. Gulvet knirket noe volsomt samt at sengen var helt elendig. Sikkert tjue år gammel madrass som var flattrykt. Rommet var greit rengjort.
