Hilton Portsmouth - Πόρτσμουθ

I was pleasantly surprised with this hotel having read some of the other reviews online. I got a good deal, two nights for the price of one with breakfast included and thought it was excellent value for money. The room was lovely, the bathroom was clean and the staff at the hotel were very friendly. There was no lift but the staff brought our luggage to the room. The breakfast was excellent and the restaurant staff were friendly and efficient. There's a nice gym too. All in all a nice hotel with good facilities that's close to local attractions.

Classy decor and happy, helpful staff greeted us as we entered the Hilton. Our room was top-notch, the hotel bar and restaurant well stocked (and the food is incredible!) Gym but no swimming pool, however vouchers are given on request to swim free at another hotel a few miles away. All in all, the service provided is absolutely excellent and made our brief stay all the better.

whilst the communal areas of the hotel were in good order the state of the room was poor. it looked like it had not be vacuumed, the decor was poor and the sofa bed my children had to use was in very poor condition and extremely uncomfortable. in general the room was cheap but not good value room 181

Breakfast was great. The service was excellent. The room had a good size TV but the bathroom was disappointing. It wasn't dirty, it just looked cheap. The pool/gym was the most disappouinting part of the experience. The pool is tiny and hired out to locals, which makes it almost impossible to do lengths. The gym is also tiny, so again only a few (like 2 people) could confortably use it at once. I also hit my head on the roof when I used the cross-trainer, which was funny but not acceptable.

Having read some of the reviews for this hotel, I was not expecting too much but I was pleasantly surprised. Check in was rather slow, with the receptionist concentrating on other duties between customers. The room was spacious and very clean with a full compliment of tea/coffee and toiletries and the double bed was very comfortable. Having had a good nights sleep, I went down for breakfast where the staff were very efficient. The english buffet breakfast was excellent and there was a good choice . There was a good choice on the continental breakfast too, although I did not try it.

Despite our advanced booking requesting a non-smoking room, on our arrival we were given a very smelly & unacceptable smokers room. We immediately returned to reception & complained. The explanation was "Non smoking rooms are only available when possible". Only flatly refusing the room & threatening to go home were we relocated to our pre-booked request. This shows not only the percentage of smoking/non smoking rooms are clearly wrong but also given the fact we checked in at 3pm (earliest permitted time) room allocation is not given on a first come first served basis. The room was clean with a comfortable bed & two pillows per person. It also had a decent sized bathroom & was quiet despite being very close to the main route into Portsmouth. Breakfast was excellent though sometimes a little slow to replenish some food when the buffet is mildly busy.

I don't think a hotel that makes you walk to the upper floor is a four star hotel. Also there was no safe in the room for valuables. Chairs were unconfortable.
