Grand Hotel Aminta - Σορέντο

A lovely hotel with a cool modern interior. Hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel occupies a great panaramic spot with lovely views. If you have the fortune to get allocated a room on the western side of the hotel will be able to enjoy the lovely evening sunsets. The pool area is a little small and the actual pool is not heated. If you are looking for a swim in the early evening the pool area is in shade and you will find it a little cold. The room we were allocated - being a double double was a nice size, very clean, bed was a little hard - typically italian but we had nice flat screen tv in our room with a good few english channels. the rooms I would rate the fitting as only a 3* the rest of the hotel I would rate as a 4*.The hotel restaurant provides nice good quality food, although the evening meal is quite expensive for the portion sizes you get. Ww would recommend this hotel to friends and family. The biggest plus point is the free shuttle bus that runs from the hotel to Sorrento centre at various times of the day. if I was to comment on this service it would be only to say it could be a little more frequent.

First review I've ever written......could never be bothered before, but had to say what a wonderful time I had. The hotel is clean, the staff very helpful and friendly, and the view beautiful. It is a bit out of town, but I think thats a good thing, as it's more peaceful than in town. You can get the bus into town if you wish, which is no hassle or walk in.......it really isn't that far. Little bit of exercise on your holiday is good! No bad comments to make at all.

Everything was 1st class

We stayed 5 nights at the Aminta. Booked the half board and thought it was a good deal. The hotel was a little further out than I envisioned. We were lucky and were upgraded to a seaview room. The views were spectacular. But the hassle of getting into town was a pain. The hotel shuttle doesn’t start running until 9 AM and if you want to get an early start, a walk down the hill may be in store. You can try to catch a Sita Bus like we did, but I hope you have better luck. If they’re full, they just pass you by. The same trying to catch one back up the hill. Wound up walking up the hill a couple times and it was hot (95F). Not something you want to do in the summer. We booked a cab to the train station just because of the lousy bus experiences we had. So if you wanting to stay someplace really nice and don’t really have a lot of plans to visit other places other than a trip into Sorrento on their shuttle bus, than this is your place. But if you plan on doing a lot of traveling to places like Capri and Positano, you may want to take into account that this hotel is not the greatest place for access to transportation (These issues may not be as bad if you are not traveling in the summer months). I will say that the hotel staff was really great.

The Grand Hotel Aminta was rated number 1 on Hotels.com and looking at other reviews of the hotel, my expectations were high. I read previous reviews about a hike down to town... it really is a hike! When on holiday we like to be able to wander out and explore as we please but the walk put us off. The hotel lays on buses but from town to the hotel there are only buses at 8.30pm and another at 11.15pm in the evening. The 11.15pm bus is packed! A taxi for the 5 minute ride up to the hotel was EUR25 so we often ended up walking. We are fit people and often go hill walking but it was a steep climb and the last thing we fancied after a nice meal! The hotel was nice and the service was brilliant but it was on a main road, not noisy from inside the hotel but it was noisy at the pool and from the balcony. The last gripe was the EUR4 charge for the sunloungers - of which there weren't enough of! I'd been to Sorrento before and stayed in the centre which is what I would recommend anyone else to do.

A bit out of town but has bus shuttle and the 1 mile walk down to town is nice. The view from pool, patio and bar is spectacular. Friendly and helpful staff. Great hotel.Popular with British tourists.

Attractice and clean hotel with great view. The quality of the food was ok but disappointing. The service was not as friendly and consumer oriented as we are acustomed to in the States.

The main body of the hotel is a modern and somewhat typical Italian hotel. The hotel also offers "Villa Rooms" in a seperate building that have nice balconies with views over a lemon orchard out to the bay of Naples. These rooms are much more spacious and private than the main building. These rooms also have their own parking area so if traveling by car, they are even better situated. Overall a nice hotel for the money. The shuttle down to town was well timed and reliable. Dinner at the hotel seemed expensive for the venue. It was much easier to drive, or take the shuttle, into Sorrento for a better dinner in a much more pleasing environment.

We loved the Hotel, the staff the selection and choice at breakfast, but most of all the location... True if you choose to walk into Sorrento and walk back as we did it is a fairly strenous walk but the views are superb and the exercise helps to burn off the breakfast There is a free shuttle bus for those that don't wish to tackle the walk - which even late at night you feel very safe doing.

This hotel was beautiful. The staff was so helpful. I wish that we had been able to stay longer. We will definitely come back for a longer stay.

This is a modern Hotel with an excellent view and is a great value for European standards. The staff was very friendly and helpful and most of the guests during our visit were Americans. Their breakfast is very complete and they will cook eggs for you any style. We had dinner and the food was excellent. The shuttle bus service is reliable but they could have more departures. Sorrento is a good place to use as a base to travel to the Amalfi coast as well as Pompeei and Paestum. We would definitely return to this hotel.

Very professional staff, comfortable room, great views. The staff helped us with reservations in Amalfi. They speak excellent English. This place is far from the center of town, so you can either take the hotel shuttle (call for details) or you will need a car. Taxis are expensive. There is a local bus that runs into town right past the hotel, but we never figured out the fare system. Breakfast is excellent - they have cook to order eggs, and espresso drinks. The bar has a great view. The large and comfortable lobby area invites you to sit in a comfy chair and read a book. Can't speak to the outside as we were there in winter, but the pool looks nice. The town is pretty and swank. I'm guessing this place is much more pricey in the summer. Our only complaint was a noisy heating fan in the room (we turned it off), and the paper thin door to the hall letting in even whispered conversations - typical of places we stayed in of any star rating.

The view was breathtaking from our room and from the outside. The suttle service is also very good for late nights. The rural path is good for excercise and it takes you straight to the centre of town. I can't wait to go back in the summer to enjoy the views and the pool.

What can I say, hotel is very impressive with fantastic views. If you are reasonably fit you can walk back up at night otherwise the hotel's last courtesy bus is at 11:15. (Taxis are hideously expensive). Would recommend it strongly

In comparison to other hotels we stayed at, it was probably the best all around. Hot breakfast was included and there was a free shuttle into town. We stayed at other hotels that advertised a free shuttle but did not offer it during the off season. The Grand Hotel Aminta still ran a shuttle to Sorrento in mid-November. The hot breakfast was included. Hotel staff was very professional.

This Hotel has so much to offer. Great view looking over the Sea. Very guite and peacefull.They have shuttles for no cost will take you to town every hour and will pick you up. When you ready to go back home will take you to train stations. I will go there again because is the most beautiful Hotel in Italy. The staff members are very nice and will help and guide you. Great room for your money. I will call it Outstading Hotel in Sorrento Italy.

The hotel is advertised as being within walking distance of Sorrento and offering a free shuttle service. The walk is down a long, steep slope with many motor scooters on it. We walked it once downhill, but would not consider doing it again. The shuttle was provided, but in the evening only returned at 5, 8:30 and 11:15. We went to dinner when a restaurant opened at 7 and by the time we ate and got the bill we were unable to catch the 8:30 shuttle back and had to take an 18 Euro taxi. I would recommend the hotel if it were closer to town or had a better shuttle.

We had the most wonderful four days at the Grand Aminta beautiful views of the bay excellant food the most helpful staff we have ever come across in our many years of travelling abroad we will be back

Arrived just before 1am due to flight delays and enjoyed a much needed chilled out drink in a lovely bar with breathtaking views from the terrace. Our room was bright and spacious with a lovely en-suite, no view but for only one night it didn't matter to us. We had the best nights sleep of our whole trip in this hotel, it was just bliss, not a sound from anywhere. The views from the breakfast room and the terrace where we chilled with coffee after was just breathtaking. The staff are quiet, friendly and helpful, no clanging around the tables here. Pool area was lovely too, a very peaceful place to stay. The hotel bus drops you into Sorrento and picks you up after, they have set times but it's free as you are out of the centre by a few Kms. It's not a 5 star as we know it in Ireland or UK but Guests were at reception trying to extend their stay, so by Italian standards, it's a good hotel.

Wonderful views, staff very helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Free courtesy bus from hotel to town always on time. Can easily walk into town but wouldn't recommend walking back, it's a little hilly! Public transport also excellent, good value for money.

This is a wonderfull property..a little walk from Sorrento is not a problem ...we did it using the trail in front of the hotel downhill takes about 15 minutes uphill if you go slow around 20 minutes..my wife and I would defenitely come back to Aminta..the staff was very helpfull and profesional and the night shows at the restaurant were very nice. The views from the Hotel are magnificent I shot around 100 pics just from the hotel area. Thanks Aminta we have a great vacation because of you !!

The views from every window and terrace at the Grand Hotel Aminta are spectacular. This gem sits on a hill above the town of Sorrento, overlooking the bay of Naples. The hotel is just a few minute ride from the town center, and not far from the port where you can catch ferries to the Amalfi Coast, Capri, and Naples. The services are excellent and the staff at the hotel are very professional and friendly. The restaurant is good, and the pool is lovely. The owner is available and on the premises to see to the guests hospitality and comfort. The room was comfortable and clean, however, the bathroom was small and the shower could have been roomier. Overall -- I was very comfortable and well cared for at the hotel. I would definately go back.

The aminta is in a quiet hilltop location, 5mins from the centre of sorrento, that has fantatsic views over the bay of naples. It gives the best of both worlds as it is easy to walk in to sorrento, or get the bus (hotel or public) but has none of the busy resort atomosphere. hotel is very clean and well maintained. We stayed in teh adjacent Villa which were well worth teh extra money.

My children (older ones) and I went for a 5 day stay in Sorrento. The hotel has the most wonderful views across the bay of Naples - it was breath taking, It is set by the olive groves and is everything you think Italy should be. The drawback is you are out of town and had to fit trips and visits down to Sorrento around the hotel bus times which was sometimes an inconvenience. The altenative is a cab and at a cost of 25 euros for a 7 minute trip, not the best option! The breakfast was very good and the service excellent both in the dining room and at reception. Would recommend this hotel (if you don't mind it being a little dated in places) and the trek to town. The views are worth oit!

A more majestic spot, you will not find. The views from each window, terrace, and patio are so wonderous it is almost as if god kissed the earth in that spot. Located on a hill, the hotel overlooks the bay and is just a few minute ride from the town center. The staff is very professional and obliging. The services provided are excellent. The food is good in the restaurant. The owner of the hotel is always on the premises and prides himself on looking after each guest. The room was comfortable and clean, however, the bathroom was small. I would definately stay in this hotel again when I visit Sorrento .... which I plan on doing time and time again.

Overall an excellent hotel with very helpful and pleasant staff. Great pool, clean and spacious rooms, excellent breakfast. The one major downside was the shuttle bus to the town centre. In the evening, there were only 2 back to the hotel - at 8.30 and 11.30pm which means either a really early dinner or a late night. It was pretty restrictive. Music blaring from the pool bar all day and until midnight wasn't great either, but as we had a room in the lovely annex, that didn't bother us. Apart from that it was lovely and much better than being in town. Fantastic views too.

After staying a week in Rome, this hotel was a great surprise. It has great views and typical rooms for Italy. We loved the pool and bar with the views. We only wished they offered a more casual dinning choice for dinner. The staff was very accomadating. We had trouble with the internet near the main desk and they came and took the time to help since the web page we were looking at was only in Italian. The free shuttle to town was great. Since we were leaving very early in the morning, they gave us a bag breakfast to take with but unfortunatly in our rush out the door, I fogot to grab them. I was very upset with myself for that! I would love to go back to this hotel in the future.

We stayed at this hotel on the first leg of our honeymoon - for about 5 days. We enjoyed it a lot. The internet is free, the rooms are huge, the pool is nice, and the bar is always open. The location was difficult - a 15 minute trek up and down a mountain to get to town. We liked being active, but towards the end it was tiresome. But they have a shuttle service that runs back and forth. The staff was extremely nice and accommodating, and the breakfast was decent. The views were amazing and you almost felt like you were at a resort - which is nice because its not a luxurious hotel. The hotel is a little dated and older looking, and the beds and furnishings are typically European. But for the price and time we were there, it was a great choice. Sorrento is beautiful!

This superb hotel overlooks Sorrento and has fantastic service. The location is secluded and requires a shuttle or taxi into town. Breakfast and Dinner at the restaurant was among the best we had in Italy. I would definitely recommend this hotel based on value if you don't mind the extra money you'll need for an occasional taxi up the hill.

Our room at the Aminta was huge! Our bathroom was extremely large, with double sinks and lots of counter space, which I like. The bed was large, I think it may have even been a king, with another single bed next to it that we didn't use. Our room looked out onto the Arno, which made for a great view and nice breeze with the window open, or so we thought until we realized that we let tons of mosquitos in that night. It was fine the next night when we kept it shut. Breakfast was included, the only hot item being eggs and some sort of bacon product, but there was enough other choices to fulfill. The only drawback to this hotel was that it was pretty far from where all the action is, Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio, Accadamia, Duomo, etc. It was a pleasant 20 min. walk along the river to get to these places which we took in the morning, but at night we took a taxi home that ranged from 15-20 euro, which adds up quick! All in all I'd recommend the hotel based on room size, comfort level, cleanliness, and value.

We found the hotel staff to be very friendly and helpful. If you want times regarding the ferries, trains or buses they have it all to hand and were happy to phone for taxis as well as give out daily weather forecasts! Our room was of a good size and had great views across the bay to Mount Vesuvius. There is a pool, large terrace and comfortable sofas inside the hotel if the weather is cool. Breakfast is varied and both continental and cooked breakfasts are provided. The food was tasty and plentiful. The hotel is about a 5-10 minute drive from the main town. A courtesy bus is provided but we found the times a little restrictive. We often walked to and from the town. It is a 15 minute walk downhill with great views but more like a 20-25 minute walk uphill (a bit of a slog especially at the end of a long day of sightseeing). SITA buses do stop outside the hotel or alternatively you can pay 25 euros for a taxi.

This is a nice hotel overlooking the sea at Sorrento.It has a fair restauraunt, and if you stay here you may have to use this eating place all the time for main meals. There is a bus service to the city of Sorrento that runs a few times a day. The beach is about one and a half miles away. The staff were pleasant, but keep in mind you cannot walk from this hotel to the city - it would be dangerous.

Nice size room with big new bathroom. Wonderful full breakfast included in cost. Shuttle bus did not run as often as we would have liked and the taxi to the hotel from town was expensive(21 euros). One mile walk uphill to get back one night.

Great location just outside of the town overlooking the Bay of Naples & Mt. Vesuvius. Quiet bar with views of Sorrento. There is a courtesy bus into Sorrento, but you can walk as well.

Much better than I expected. Our room had a balcony and we could see Capri in the distance. There were great views across the Bay of Naples from the Hotel restaurant and bar. Excellent food at the breakfast buffet, and evening meals are reasonably priced. The free shuttle bus to and from the town was very useful, especially on the way back to the hotel as the hill walk is quite long. The Hotel has beautiful gardens full of olive and fruit trees, delightful for us city dwellers. Hotel staff were helpful and all spoke English.

Beautiful location, extremely helpful and couteous staff, especially at the front desk made for a wonderful week's visit. Breakfast was fresh and varied. Shuttle buses ran frequently to Sorrento town center so it was not necessary to take the car. Public buses were also convenient.We used them and local trains to get to all the tourist sites, such as Pompeii. We visited in early November, so we were unable to take advantage of the beautiful pool and grounds. Dinner at the hotel was very good, although a little pricey. We ate more frequently in Sorrento town center. My husband and I would definately book this hotel. We were there for 6 nights and I was sorry we didn't stay longer.

In many years of travelling, I have never come across staff as friendly or helpful as the staff at the Aminta. The service from the front desk is exceptional. All areas of the hotel look fresh and bright. The rooms are comfortable, but with no air con after 15th sept we found our room a little too hot at night. Although too cold for us to try, the pool looked clean and inviting. For an Italian hotel (where breakfast often means a hard bread roll and some apricot jam!), the breakfast was excellent, with plenty of choice. The Aminta is positioned on a hill overlooking the bay, which means a 20-30 minute downhill walk into the centre of Sorrento, as there are no restaurants or facilities nearby. We used the free shuttle bus to get into town, but found the bus times back inconvenient, especially in the evening. This meant quite an arduous uphill walk back after dinner. For this reason I would only recommend the Aminta to the reasonably fit and those without young children. Overall a fantastic hotel. Would visit again without hesitation.

My family ( husband, teenage son, and myself) throughly enjoyed our stay at the Aminta. It was our first trip to Italy and the hotel receptionists were very personable and extremely helpful. The view from the hotel/our room was breathtaking drop dead gorgeous !! I had read reviews that said the hotel is out of the way (about 3 kilometers outside of the center of the town), but that's one of the things we most liked about the hotel. We parked our car and took the free hotel provided bus or walked ( 10-15 minutes) to town. I had also read that the climb or walk back to the hotel was difficult, but it is not bad. You do need comfortable shoes ( not flip flops) and it is a continous rise up a hill, but it is not that bad ( 20-30 min). The good size pool is divided into two sections a larger deep and a smaller shallow area. My son only swam in the deep part of the pool, but he is a good swimmer. The breakfast buffet is fine. There are a lot of sweet things, but there was always a good variety including yogurt, cereal,fruit and eggs could be ordered off a menu. We loved our time at the Aminta and would definetly return.

Hotellet är mkt bra. Vidunderlig utsikt. Rum, terass och pool mkt bra. Frukost (mkt bra) på terassen, med utsikt över Sorento slår det mesta. Bra service. Bussar året runt till city t/r från hotell. Sista bussen går 23,15 från stan. Underbar promenad ned till stan på morgonen.

Prima bediening in restaurant, vriendelijke mensen. Alleen gelegen aan een toch redelijk drukke doorgaande weg. Weinig water uit de douche en lift die bij stoppen niet geheel op het zelfde niveau als de grond zit (mogelijkheid tot struikelen). Maar vooral: heerlijk eten.

Det er svært at finde noget at klage på.

Vi blev först lite förvånade på hotellet då våra förväntningar på ett 4 stjärnigt hotell var högre! Vi ändrade oss dock så snabbt vi pratade med personalen på hotellet. Det är den trevligaste personal vi mött!!! Hotellet ligger en bit ifrån centrum så vi rekommenderar att man har bil!

Både beliggenhet og standard er topp på dette hotellet. Litt utenfor det værste bråket i byen, men alikevel nærmenok til å spasere. Hvertfall til sentrum...hjem blir veien litt for bratt. Men Hotellet har egen buss som tar 5 min - gratis for gjestene. Rent og pent på hele hotelområdet. Kanskje litt kjedelig for de som søker full fart... men for de som ønsker å slappe av er dette topp. Restauranten serverer utmerket frokost, også varm. Men middags menyen er litt kjedelig.

Vi var väldigt nöjda med detta hotell. Servicen var verkligen i topp! Mycket vänlig personal som gjorde allt för gästerna. Härligt läge med vacker utsikt över Sorrento. Generös frukostbuffé. Fint poolområde med solbäddar. Gratis shuttlebuss till och från staden flera gånger /dag. Kan verkligen rekommenderas!

Locatie net buiten Sorrento. Geweldig uitzicht op de baai. Hotel biedt goede service en goede voorzieningen (standaard internet op kamer, attente front desk, flexibele en prima service bij ontbijt en diner). Publiek gemengd (zowel oud als jong). Was helaas nog niet warm genoeg voor zwembad (eind april, begin mei). Ook onze kinderen hebben zich desondanks goed geamuseerd.
