Britannia Coventry Hill Hotel - Allesley

Manager was charming and helpful as was the receptionist who checked us in but sadly from there it went downhill. bed had springs almost poking through ,so very uncomfortable. dirty pillows without lining cases. dirty windows. Just generally run down.

Although very old fashioned decor this hotel was very clean and had the best beds I've ever slept in from a hotel point of view. Need to get a taxi into town however the village of Allesley is a very pleasent place with an excellant pub / micro brewery.

By American standards this is probably not a three star hotel, but by european standards, it certainly is. We have stayed there a few times over the years. The hotel has always been clean, well run, and generous with the amenities. Housekeeping is accomodating and attentive. One may take safe, pleasant walks around the neighbourhood. This hotel has a very nice central location to use as a base. If a taxi is desired, the front desk can recommend a reliable, affordable cab company. It is a short walk to the bus stop, but be careful crossing the fast, busy road. The 900 bus will take guests to the NEC, airport, or train station.

I stayed here for one night before an interview and was extremely disappointed. The Hotel was dimly lit and grubby as soon as you walked through the door. It took a long time to check in whilst the staff were standing around chatting to each other. When I finally managed to get to my room it absolutely reeked of stale cigarettes - suprising considering that smoking was banned nearly a year ago!! When I went back down to complain I was told that it was the only room they had and so I was pretty much stuck. I settled down to sleep which to be fair was a good night unitl 6 in the morning when the heating came on, the only way I can describe it was saucepans being banged together. There was no way of turning it off so I decided to get up and have a shower. It was very powerful and helped to redeam the room slightly. Once dressed I noticed the stale cigarette smoke on my clothes which I had left in my over night bag. All in all, A good nights sleep (until 6) but was left going to my interview smellig like I smoke 50 a day. I wouldn't reccomend this hotel to anyone, the service was poor and the room was dirty and smelly.

This hotel is simply not up to the standards one expects in the 21st century. It has hardly been touched in the 40-odd years of its existence. The carpets are bright orange and tired and gaundy seat covers are in abundance everywhere. The entrance stank of fried food, check-in took an age as there was only one receptionist on duty and breakfast was not included in the price.

Decent hotel. Quick, efficient check in. Large, clean, well appointed room, only very slightly dated. Good location mid way between Coventry and Birmingham airport.

I have stayed at this hotel several times. OK not brilliant but acceptable at internet price and OKish accommodation, it served its purpose. Booked four rooms last Friday night. Breakfast on Saturday was totally unnacceptable. Dirty tables, dirty plates, littered floor, tea coffee station filthy, food almost inedible, wondered about H and S. Staff indifferent and not bothered, claimed they had been busy with two coach parties at seven thirty am. This was nine am and only ten people in restaurant, all looking for a decent Breakfast, sadly they seeked but did not find.

The hotel is a little bit dated and this showed in the room where the wallpaper was peeling a little. Not the warmest of rooms either. However, we found it excellent value, and we could not fault the level of cleanliness. There was also ample parking space and the hotel is very well-placed for a visit to Coventry, only 2 miles away, but in a reasonably quiet location looking out over countryside.

Staff very friendly and helpful. Hotel itself a bit shabby in places, but generally clean. Bar food fairly awful.

Enjoyed the location of the hotel. My problem with the hotel was, there was a pigeon in our room when we arrived. The porter came to put him out but the housekeeper did not tidy up after him the next day or the following day which was a little disappointing. Otherwise the hotel was fine and the food was good with very good service in the evening and morning
