Allesley Hotel Coventry - Allesley

On leaving the reception area and walking towards our allocated room my immediate impression was of a hotel in need of refurbishment. On entering the room the first thing you saw was a piece of black gaffer tape covering the join in the carpet in the middle of the room. This tape did not cover the full extent of the carpet joint which was badly thread bare and in an appalling state. Black mildew was evident on the ceiling and yellow water staines on the polestyrene roof panels were quite off putting. The room was initially cold with the window being fully open obviously in an attempt to air the room from the damp smell within. The en-suite was also in need of repair with again black mildew marks on all walls. The following morning on checking that nothing had been left behind by my children I found five empty Fosters lager cans in the clothing drawers left by previous occupants. Carpet did not appear to have been hoovered although the bed linen was checked and was fresh. The double bed and two single beds of the family room were obviously in need of replacement as they were very soft and tired. Due to the lateness of our arrival at the hotel and early departure I did not complain at the time but did mention to reception staff that the room had not been prepared thoroughly. I would not return to this hotel and was very disappointed with it. To sum up my 10 year old son remarked 'Its not very nice here Dad I hope the next hotel is better''.

The hotel was so difficult to find and once we arrived an hour later which was supposed to be a 15 minute journey. The hotel receptionist was new so didnt have a clue where our room was located and had to go and find it first. For a family of four we were given a room with three single beds, when we had paid for a family room. The hotel smelled of dampness, I wish I had taken more notice of the reviews before booking the hotel. We then requested a wake up call, which never happened. Please take note of the reviews and do not book unless you want to be disappointed!

Poor show - during our family Easter break.. we arrived late afternoon... our room wasn't even ready, we had to sit around for nearly 40mins before we could enter our room.... no remote for tv and staff couldn't locate another during our 2 day stay. Had family room, 1 double n 2 singles but son had to sleep on Z bed, without proper bedding.. had to ask for quilt. 2 bulbs not working, inc bedside lamps.... mugs in room were dirty with lipstick from previous customers!!!! Only 1 member of staff available, so they couldn't leave their desk!!! Restaurant/bar closed or empty - had to get Chinese takeaway. Very disappointed.

If your attending any events at the NEC and the hotels in and around the NEC are just too expensive, try the Allesley. Super convenient, a bus every 30 minutes right to the NEC and back from right in front of the Hotel..(quick 15 minute ride)Quaint Pubs and local restaurants close by....

Didn't know what I was going to get with the Allesley hotel. I turned out to be a pleasant surprise, all the staff where really helpfull and the breakfast was spot on. For the price I could not complain. I will use the hotel again.

The allesley hotel is fine for a cheap room for the night with no frills. It was clean, complimentary shower gels , tea and coffee making facilities etc. Have never ate in the restaurant. If you are looking for a cheap stay in a hotel for one or two nights then this is fine.

I stayed here regulary 30 years ago. It was the one of if not the best Hotel in the Midlands area at that time. It was a major disappointment almost a disbelief to see it today. To give it the best report I can - it's functionable'. The whole paints has hardly changed in 30 years, decor, furniture (bathrooms have never changed for sure). Sad to see really, I understand it's for sale so there is hope.

Bedroom shelves drawers and window all looked like they hadn't been cleaned for months. Bathroom taps had mould and dirt ingrained into them. One hand and one bath towel were provided for 3 people. All in all very unclean. Will not be staying again.

Hotel was fine, booking and check in no problem. Unfortunately the room we stayed in was falling apart a bit, the shower tray had a large patch of mould that looked like one of the aliens from an old episode of Dr Who. Apart from the shabbyness of the room there is nothing wrong with this hotel if you get a low enough price.

The hotel itself looks good and clean - only problem I had was with the general housekeeping of the rooms, especially the bathroom. I found the previous occupants hair in the plug hole and the soap they used still in the soap holder in the bath - not a very good impression - thankfully I was only using this as a place to sleep for one night. Will not be staying here again

Having arrived at the Hotel, the Reception area looking very tired as did the corridors leading to the rooms. I checked into my room on a very cold day to find all of the bedroom windows wide open - a nice welcome. After unpacking my suitcase I, ventured into the bathroom. Well tried to get into the bathroom! The door wouldn't open, no matter how much I pulled and twisted. A call down to Reception did the trick. A man arrived with a Kirby Grip (Hair Grip) and unlocked the door. Brilliant I thought! Upon getting in to the bathroom, I discovered a badly splayed toothbrush; a half used tube of toothpaste, a sodden towel in the bottom of the shower and a hand towel which had also clearly been used. I requested a new room....... At this point, I put my case into the room and went out to eat returning later that evening. My new room was the equivalent of being in the tropics even with the heating in the room being turned off and it was above a very noisy bar. I tried to sleep on what I can only describe as a piece of foam. The following morning whilst brushing my teeth, I let the shower warm up only to discover the shower tray was blocked and within a millimetre of overflowing. I then had a stop/start shower having to concentrate on the water level. Upon seeing the room in day-light was the first time, it was filthy and the carpet had never seen a Hoover.

Hotel is nice we have stayed there before but we did find this time the room was a little on the small side but we didnt mind because we didnt pay alot really. Was disappointed with the people staying in next room making alot of noise when coming back very late,also tiny window which looked out to brick walls but we love the place it is where we had our engagement party and wedding receception and they were great. we will be coming back. from mature married couple from Coventry.
